How It Happened
The middle innings were kind to Northwestern as the No. 11-ranked Red Raiders defeated Jamestown in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader.

After Jamestown compiled a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first, they went up 3-0 in the home half to grab an early lead.

Continuing to show that they can win in different ways, the Raiders took advantage of Jamestown's errors to move ahead 8-0. When a bases-loaded fielder's choice added Northwestern's first run, Ashtyn Billings drew a walk in the next at-bat to cut it to a one-run deficit. The Raiders then took the lead 4-3 when Jori Hajek doubled down the right field line to score two.

Northwestern piled on more following a pitching change, with Maddie Kvatek bunting in a run to make it 5-3. One batter from batting around in the inning, Gwen Mikkelsen singled to score two and stretch the lead to 8-3.

The fourth inning was a similar story, as Northwestern brought four across to make it 12-3. An error plated the first run, while a wild pitch made the score 10-3. Later in the inning, with two outs, Abby Pate collected a base hit to drive in two.

Jamestown left one on base in the fifth to end the game early.

Northwestern was first to score in the third, capitalizing with two outs and two on Tatum Schmalbeck plated the game's first run.

Holding a 1-0 lead in the fifth, the Raiders added to their lead when Jewel Bergstrom stole a base in a pinch running spot, being brought in by Chloe Gallegos with one away.

The Jimmies left two on base in the fifth and a runner on second in the sixth as Northwestern thwarted the upset bid with a 2-0 win.
