Northwestern Kicks Off Weekend with Sweep

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – A first-game comeback and game two onslaught was the theme as Northwestern went back to the American State Bank Sports Complex for two wins over College of Saint Mary.

GAME 1: NWC 3, CSM 2
Pitching Decisions
Win: Kameryn Etherington (15-2)
Loss: S. Campbell (5-15)
Save: None

How It Happened
The Raiders rallied in the fifth to steal a win from the Flames on Friday evening, using an RBI single from Tatum Schmalbeck to squeeze ahead.

Northwestern struck first, scoring on a bunt from Randi Childress and heads-up baserunning by Jori Hajek to take a 1-0 lead.

The Flames answered in the third, sending two across on an RBI double to put Northwestern on the ropes.

With opportunities dwindling, Northwestern had a prime opportunity with runners on second and third and the middle of the order due up. Two outs were on the board, and Schmalbeck answered the call with a 2-RBI single to give her team the lead.

College of Saint Mary put two on base in the next two innings, but Kameryn Etherington held the Flames in check for an exciting win.

How It Happened
A six-run fourth inning helped the Raiders to the sweep in a 9-1 win.

The Raiders went ahead early, scoring three in the first three innings, with two off of a home run to left by Kameryn Etherington, her fifth blast of the season.

After the Flames added a run on a homer of their own in the fourth, Northwestern used its half of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Four RBI singles helped the Raiders methodically build their lead, ending the game in five frames.

Game Notes:
Up Next: The Raiders are back in the dome tomorrow, playing Morningside in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
