How It Happened
One run was all it took as both pitchers were dealing in Friday's GPAC battle between the Raiders and Warriors.

Dylan Kirkeby became Northwestern's all-time strikeout leader with his third of the day in the sixth inning, holding his team within reach in a 1-0 game heading into the final innings.

The Raiders had activity on the base paths late, with Drew Dykstra singling and stealing in the sixth. Then, after a leadoff walk in the seventh, Midland caught the Raiders' steal attempt and struck out the final batter of the game to secure the nail-biting win.

Game Notes:
  • Dylan Kirkeby now sits atop the Northwestern pitching record book with 269 career strikeouts.
  • Kirkeby went all seven innings, punching out four and not allowing any earned runs.
  • Drew Dykstra and Sam Stanford both recorded a hit.
  • Dykstra and Devin Dirkx each drew a walk.
GAME 2: MID 3, NWC 2 (10 inn.)
Pitching Decisions
Win: C. Kent
Loss: Jakeb Swallow (3-3)
Save: B. Creps

How It Happened
The Raiders tied the game late, but Midland left with the doubleheader sweep in extra innings.

Midland struck first, adding a run to the guest tally in the opening frame with runners on first and second.

After the Warriors went ahead 2-0 in the fifth, Northwestern responded in the eighth with two runs to tie the game. Devin Dirkx got things started with a leadoff single, with Mason Porepp doubling to send Dirkx's pinch runner to third. With two in scoring position, a productive out gave Isaac Short the RBI and cut the deficit in half. In the next at-bat, Ranier Castillo drove in another via the sacrifice fly to tie the game late.

With nine frames not producing a winner, Midland took the lead in the 10th, scoring on a wild pitch with runners on second and third.

Northwestern placed runners on first and second in its final chance, but the second strikeout of the inning closed the game for the Warriors.

Game Notes:
Up Next: Northwestern and Midland will meet again in Fremont, Nebraska tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
