Baseball Claims Four-Game Sweep of Dordt

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In two games that came down to the final inning, Northwestern prevailed with another pair of wins over Dordt on Saturday, sweeping the four-game series.

GAME 1: NWC 1, DORDT 0
Pitching Decisions
Win: Drew Dykstra (4-3)
Loss: Chaz Gothard (2-7)
Save: None

How It Happened
Drew Dykstra tossed a one-hit, complete game shutout as Northwestern blanked Dordt 1-0 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.

Hits were difficult to come by as both pitchers were dealing, with only one hit totaled through the first two and a half frames. The Raiders took advantage of a Dordt error in the bottom of the fourth, grabbing a 1-0 lead when Mason Porepp hit a one-out single and advanced to third on an error in the next at-bat. Bryce Click grounded out to short, allowing Porepp to advance home for the game's first and only run.

Dordt stranded a runner on third in the sixth, and Dykstra struck out the side in the seventh to complete the shutout.

Game Notes:
  • Drew Dykstra punched out eight batters, only allowing one hit in the shutout.
  • The Raiders drew three walks.
  • Mason Porepp went 1-for-3 and scored a run.
  • Bryce Click had an RBI, drew a walk, and had a steal.
GAME 2: NWC 6, DORDT 4
Pitching Decisions
Win: Aidan Sieperda (3-5)
Loss: A. Doble (1-3)
Save: Jakeb Swallow (3)

How It Happened
On the heels of a four-game sweep, Northwestern held off a late Dordt rally to win 6-4 at home.

Dordt struck first, grabbing a 1-0 lead with a double in the second.

In the next inning, Isaac Short clobbered his first home run of the season, using the solo homer to spark a three-run inning. Two batters later, Sam Stanford continued his scorching weekend with an RBI single ahead of another base hit RBI for Mason Porepp later in the inning.

With the score holding through the middle innings, the Raiders added three on in the fifth, first scoring on an error before adding runs in consecutive at-bats on a double from Bryce Click and a single for Mo Watson.

Dordt forced the Raiders to make plays late, coming within two runs with two outs, but Jakeb Swallow entered with the tying run on deck to earn the save.

Game Notes:
Up Next: The Raiders will take on Waldorf in a single, nine-inning contest on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. in Forest City, Iowa.
