Raiders End RussMatt Invitational with Sweep of VCSU

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – On their final day of neutral-site games in Florida, the Northwestern baseball team swept Valley City State (N.D.) to move its record to 4-2 on the week.

Game one saw the Raiders win 18-1 in yet another win of 15+ runs, their third such victory this week. Sam Stanford finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a home run, double, and base hit. Northwestern scored eight runs in the third inning, including a two-run shot for Devin Dirkx, the first of his career. Luke Wroblewski continued his dominance at the plate, collecting three hits with three RBIs. On the mound, Dylan Kirkeby tied his career-high with 11 strikeouts, going 6.0 innings for the win.

Brad Tornow tossed a complete-game shutout and tied the program record with 16 strikeouts as the Raiders downed the Vikings 4-0 in game two. Northwestern put all of its runs on the board in the first inning, setting the stage for a pitching clinic by Tornow. His 16 strikeouts ties the record set earlier this season by teammate Drew Dykstra.

Up Next: The Raiders will play a campus-site road game on Monday, taking on Ave Maria (Fla.) in a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
