Raiders Put Up 17 Runs in Game One Win

Roosevelt shuts out Northwestern in second game

SANFORD, Fla. – On their opening day in Florida, the Red Raider baseball team put up 17 runs in game one in a doubleheader split against Roosevelt (Ill.).

How It Happened
Despite giving up a first-inning home run, Drew Dykstra pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts as the Raiders opened their Florida trip with a 17-1 win over Roosevelt (Ill.).

Northwestern put its first runs across in the second, using a bunt and sacrifice fly for the first two scores before Luke Wroblewski hit a ground-ball single to bring in the third run of the inning.

Ranier Castillo brought in two more on a single into right field to bring Devin Dirkx and Mason Porepp across, making it 5-0 in the third.

The fifth inning was where the Raiders made their mark, pushing across seven runs to build up a 13-1 lead. Dykstra got the scoring started on a single to center field, while Wroblewski continued his solid day at the plate, bringing in two on a line drive to make the score 9-1. Later in the inning, with Northwestern up 11-1, Bryce Click drove in a pair of runs on an RBI double.

With the game well in hand in the top of the seventh, Brody Ayers launched a ball inside the left field foul pole for a three-run home run, the first blast of his career.

How It Happened
After a dominant win in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, the Raiders were shutout in game two, falling to the Roosevelt Lakers 7-0.

The Lakers used a methodical approach to get the win, led by starting pitcher Angel Morales. In the shutout, Roosevelt put up two runs in the first inning on a ground ball through the right side. The second saw them add four runs, two from wild pitches, one on an RBI single, and one on a sacrifice fly.

Leading 6-0 for most of the contest, the Lakers added an additional run to down the Red Raiders 7-0 and force the split.

Up Next: The Raiders will match up with Rochester (Mich.) tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. (CT) in Auburndale, Florida.
