Schmalbeck’s Three RBIs, Etherington’s Shutout Push Raiders Ahead of Lancers

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Raiders swept their second GPAC doubleheader in a row, earning a pair of wins over Dakota Wesleyan on Friday.

Pitching Decisions
Win: Kate Kralik (8-1)
Loss: K. Krcil (6-7)

How It Happened
Northwestern scored the first four runs to set the tone in the win early on Friday morning.

The Raiders struck in the first inning, as Tatum Schmalbeck began her effective day at the plate with an RBI single to right, allowing Chloe Gallegos to score.

Northwestern added two more in the third, scoring in back-to-back at-bats on Gwen Mikkelsen's RBI single and an error in the next plate appearance.

Leading 3-0 in the fourth, Kameryn Etherington had a two-out base hit to bring Randi Childress in from third to extend the Northwestern lead to four runs.

Dakota Wesleyan added two runs to cut the deficit in half in the late innings, even sending the tying run to the plate, but it was not enough as the Raiders took the 4-2 win.

GAME 2: NWC 3, DWU 0
Pitching Decisions
Win: Kameryn Etherington (12-1)
Loss: I. Woolwine (4-8)
Save: None

How It Happened
Tatum Schmalbeck hit a three-RBI double to help out Kameryn Etherington in the complete-game shutout, as the Raiders completed the doubleheader sweep.

The pitchers were the story early on as Etherington and DWU's Woolwine faced off through the first three innings. However, after an injury to the Tigers' starter, the Raiders loaded the bases, setting up a bases-clearing double for Schmalbeck to break the scoreless streak.

Etherington was dominant in the circle from that point on, not allowing a hit over the final three innings to pitch her sixth complete game and fourth strikeout of the season.

Game Notes:
Up Next: The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday, facing Jamestown on the road. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
