Loss: C. Peterson (1-2)

How It Happened
A back-and-forth contest saw the Raiders earn the last momentum swing, taking a 5-4 win over Hastings in Orange City.

The Raiders struck first, scoring on an RBI single from Devin Dirkx with runners on first and second to take a 1-0 lead.

Mason Porepp extended the lead with a leadoff home run to start the second, with his solo shot making the score 2-0.

After Hastings cut the deficit in half in the third, a fourth-inning solo home run tied the game at 2-2.

The Raiders once again extended their advantage, answering in the bottom of the fourth, as it was Porepp once again contributing a run on an RBI double. Northwestern's lead ballooned back to two runs in the fifth when Mo Watson doubled with two away to bring Sam Stanford in from second.

A two-run shot from Hastings' Martinez tied things up again in the sixth before the Raiders took the lead for good in the bottom frame, as Ethan Buckner lined a single into right to score Bryce Click.

Hastings stranded a runner at third in the seventh as Jakeb Swallow finished out the game for the win.

How It Happened
Mason Porepp had one of the best games of his career in a shootout win over Hastings, driving in six runs with two home runs.

Despite falling behind in the first, the Raiders took the lead for the first time in the game as Sam Stanford drove in a run, followed by a three-run shot by Porepp to make the score 4-1.

Hastings answered in their half of the second, tying the game with a base hit and a forced error.

Tied 4-4 through the middle innings, the Raiders had another big inning in the sixth, starting with a bases-loaded fielder's choice and a Stanford bunt single. Porepp then did it again, driving the ball out for the third time on the day to extend the Northwestern advantage to five runs.

The Raiders brought a few insurance runs across the plate in the seventh and eighth to take a 13-6 lead into the final frame, but Hastings was not done yet. The Broncos plated four runs in the inning, but Jakeb Swallow entered with the tying run in the batter's box to pick up the save.

Game Notes:
  • Mason Porepp became the second Raider this season to have six RBIs, joining Luke Wroblewski from March 8 against Indiana South Bend.
  • Porepp launched two home runs and drew a walk.
  • Sam Stanford notched three hits with a double.
  • Wroblewski and Mo Watson also had multi-hit games.
  • Aidan Sieperda had five Ks in the start, while Peyton Montecinos picked up his first collegiate win with two no-hit innings of work.
