Raiders Stopped by Top-Ranked Grace in Kansas City

LaFave leads all scorers with 21 points

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Top overall seed Grace (Ind.) ended the season of the fifth-seeded Northwestern men's basketball team on Thursday, 82-66 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.

"Grace is a good team; they're big, athletic, and they disrupt you," commented head coach Kris Korver. "We didn't take care of the basketball quite like we needed to, and we needed to shorten their runs. We're proud of our guys. They've had a great year, and I'm proud of what God has done and is going to do in their lives."

Northwestern got out to a strong start with Dillon Carlson hitting a fallaway jumper for the game's first basket before a Kaleb Booth three and Zach LaFave one-handed slam made it 9-8 Raiders at the 16-minute mark.

Grace then went on a 10-4 run over three minutes heading into the media timeout, eventually extending its lead to 36-21. The Raiders answered with a 4-0 run of their own, but the Lancers brought it back to a 15-point advantage with three minutes until the break. Needing a bucket before the buzzer, Booth answered the call with a tip-in to make the score 45-30 at halftime.

The Raiders cut it to a 12-point deficit with 16:37 to go after a few defensive stops and a Booth three made it 49-37. A few possessions later, the Northwestern contingent at Municipal Auditorium began to shift the energy following a Carlson layup and LaFave's hoop plus the foul. The Lancers answered with an impressive run, moving ahead by 20 points with 12 minutes to play and tacking on a 13-0 run on three triples for Brett Sickafoose. The Grace lead held near 20 points for the remainder of the contest as Northwestern's season ends in the Round of 16.
