Click’s Walk-Off Base Hit Helps Raiders to Saturday Sweep

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – A blustery day was in store for the Raiders as they would win both games against the Tigers, through a nail biter pitching battle in game one that brought extra innings, and plenty of runs in game two to secure the double header win.

GAME 1: NWC 1, DWU 0 (10 Inn.)
Pitching Decisions
Win: Drew Dykstra
Loss: Seth Christiansen
Save: None

How It Happened
The wind and cold didn't help either team get things moving. A pitching battle would ensue between Drew Dykstra and Seth Christian of DWU, with Dykstra only allowing 4 on base hits from the Tigers.  A connection from Bryce Click in the 8th would stop the perfect from Christiansen and get the Raiders rolling. It wouldn't be until the bottom of the 10th that a single from Devin Dirkx out to center field would then put Jack Craig in to pinch run. A wild pitch put Criag on second base, until Click would hit another single and RBI, brining Criag home for the first score of the game, as well as the win.

GAME 2: NWC 7, DWU 1
Pitching Decisions
Win: Aidan Siepdera
Loss: Dexter Payne
Save: Devin Dirkx

How It Happened
Prepared now for the second game, the Raiders would lock down the pitching mound and the infield winning the second game 7-1. A walked Tiger, making his way around the bags, to score by error, would be the only one DWU would see that second game.

A single by Mason Porepp in the bottom of the second would start the hitting party for the Raiders, but it would be until the bottom of the 3rd when the scores would start rolling in. Drew Dykstra, on base from a bunt, and Brody Ayers, on base from a single to left field would both be advanced to second and third base respectively by Luke Wroblewski. Sam Stanford's single to right field and resulting RBI would bring home Dykstra and Ayers to put the Raiders up 2-0.

Down at the bottom of the 6th, the Raiders would pull in 5 more runs to bring the game out of reach of the Tigers. Porepp would score after popping a double to left field and being advanced during the subsequent batter. Dykstra and Ayers would score again. Ayers after a single and getting advanced by a walk and errors by DWU, and Dysktra getting on by that very same walk. Wroblewski back on base would find himself getting around by passed balls and to home base due to an RBI by Mo Watson. Craig back in to pinch run and a stolen second base would see another RBI to bring him home and finish the Raider's scoring.

Up Next: Northwestern travels down to Seward, NE for a two day, back-to-back, double header on Friday March 22nd, and Saturday March 23rd. Friday games will start at 4pm and Saturday games will start at 1pm.
