Northwestern Wraps Up Time in Arizona with Shutout Victories

Pate hits first career home run

How It Happened
The middle innings were kind to the Raiders as they defeated William Penn in a rematch of the season opener.

Chloe Gallegos put her team on the board in the fourth, hitting a triple to right with one on to put Northwestern ahead 1-0. The Raiders added two more in the inning, scoring on a fielder's choice and a ground out.

The fifth saw three more come across, as Kameryn Etherington drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Gwen Mikkelsen singled into left to score two. Randi Childress crossed home plate later in the contest to give Northwestern a 7-0 lead.

Kate Kralik threw a complete game, striking out six batters.
Gwen Mikkelsen drove in three runs.
Kameryn Etherington went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Randi Childress drove in a run.
Charli Bomgaars and Jori Hajek both walked twice.

How It Happened
The Raiders posted their second shutout of the day, scoring in all but one inning to conclude their time in Tucson.

Northwestern led 2-0 after the first inning, scoring on a bunt attempt and a bases-loaded walk. In the second, an overthrow by the third baseman allowed Jori Hajek to score from third to go ahead 3-0.

In the third, a three-run home run for Abby Pate, her first career homer, created separation as the Raiders moved ahead 6-0. The game later ended an inning early as Gwen Mikkelsen drove in Charli Bomgaars on an RBI base hit to put the eight-run rule in effect in an 8-0 win.

Ashtyn Billings went 2-for-3.
Chloe Gallegos and Randi Childress also had an RBI each.
Kameryn Etherington and Ellie Jacobson completed the combined shutout, with Etherington striking out six batters.
