Raiders Crush Top-Ranked Dordt to Earn Fourth Seed

Anderson scores career-high; another double-double for Schany

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 1 Dordt Defenders came into the Bultman Center looking to become the first team to sweep GPAC play since 2015, but the Red Raider women's basketball team had other plans. Led by a career-high 28 points from Hali Anderson, Northwestern took down their cross-county rivals in an 81-63 rout.

"I'm incredibly proud of our team today," commented head coach Kristin Rotert. "We competed with a high degree of physical and mental toughness and battled the full 40 minutes. Everyone made big plays when called upon, and our defense executed our game plan with perfection."

In a matchup that featured big plays across the board, it was the visiting Defenders who jumped ahead early. After a Dordt three put them ahead 15-8 with 2:27 in the first, the Raiders began to cut into the deficit. Akaysa Duitscher knocked down a three to spark an 8-2 run, and Anderson crashed the boards for a buzzer-beating and-one to make it 17-16 after 10 minutes.

The second quarter was where the Raiders made their mark, outscoring their opponent 27-11 in the quarter. Northwestern took its first lead of the game at 27-24 on a three by Anderson, setting up a run that pushed the Raider lead to 15 points on a Maren Nerem trey with 47 seconds until the break, while Kaydin Davis hit a three ahead of the horn to give her team a 43-28 halftime lead.

After Dordt came as close as 12 near the midway point of the third, the resilient Raiders took a 66-50 advantage into the final quarter as yet another shot at the buzzer was knocked in by Anderson, grabbing a loose ball and tossing it up from the midrange.

Northwestern iced the game in the fourth, leading by as many as 21 points on multiple occasions to get its first top-five win of the year.
