How It Happened
Northwestern used a methodical approach to deliver its first shutout of the season, defeating Viterbo (Wis.) early on Friday.

The Raiders put a run on the board without recording a hit in the first, as Drew Dykstra drew a leadoff walk, followed by a Luke Wroblewski hit by pitch. With Dykstra stealing second and moving to third on a sacrifice, Sam Stanford brought him home to break onto the scoreboard.

Dykstra once again led off the inning with a walk and a steal in the third, and although he was out at home later in the inning, his play allowed Mason Porepp to get to second and later score on an error. Wroblewski also crossed home plate on a wild pitch to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead.

Northwestern once again got their leadoff man on in the fourth as Isaac Short singled to start the inning. Short's courtesy runner, TJ Silliman, later came around to score on a wild pitch to make the score 4-0. Brody Ayers scored on a ground out as well, pushing the Red Raider lead to five runs.

Three pitchers were used in the shutout, as Aidan Sieperda put together a solid start to set up Micah De Haan and Jacob Thurm for two innings of late-innings action.

How It Happened
In their second contest of the day, the Raiders battled with the Graceland Yellowjackets, falling 7-3 in the seven-inning bout.

Graceland took an early 2-0 lead, using a two-out single with two runners in scoring position to grab momentum. Northwestern answered in the second, cutting the deficit in half as Ethan Buckner drove in TJ Silliman from second, hitting a single but getting called out stretching to second.

The Yellowjackets put up five runs in the third, scoring on an error, a sacrifice fly, and two RBI singles to go up 7-1.

Needing to rally in the late innings, the Raiders mustered two runs in the seventh, scoring on back-to-back RBI doubles from Mason Porepp and Sam Stanford before Graceland forced a flyout to secure the 7-3 win.
