Raiders Rout Lancers to Remain Unbeaten at Home

Four Raiders score in double figures

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern Red Raiders (19-5, 12-4 GPAC) took care of the Mount Marty Lancers (6-17, 2-15 GPAC) at home on Saturday with impressive all-around performances.

"I felt we were locked in defensively, and I thought our guys played with some emotion and executed," stated head coach Kris Korver. "We've had a lot of road games in the second semester, so it was nice to be back home. It sets up a nice last couple of weeks, and we are excited and look forward to the challenges in front of us."

When these two teams met back on January 6, the Mount Marty Lancers hit a ¾ court buzzer beater for their first conference win. The conference-leading Raiders imposed their will early and often to make sure the Lancers had no chance at another upset. An early pair of Dillon Carlson three-pointers set the stage for a dominant first half. The lead would grow as large as 19 when Alex Van Kalsbeek took a Carlson pass and threw it down for a dunk. The Raiders would take a 42-26 lead into the halftime break shooting 17/32 (53%) from the field and 6/13 (46%) from three. Carlson and Van Kalsbeek would reach double digits with 13 and 10, respectively, leading the Raiders in scoring at the break. Craig Sterk would anchor the Raider defense with two steals and three blocks.

There would be no hope for a Lancer comeback as the Raiders would start the second half on a 10-1 run to extend their lead to 25 points. That margin would stay steady for the remainder of the half, with scoring coming from a number of places. Starting guards Kaleb Booth and Carlson would score with incredible efficiency, combining to score 30 points on 12-15 from the field and 5-8 from deep. Booth would pitch in seven assists, as well. Van Kalsbeek (16) and Sterk (10) would join the guards in double figures, with Sterk putting on a defensive clinic with four steals and blocks apiece.

The Raiders outscored the Lancers in the paint 42-32, behind the arc 30-9, and in points off turnovers 18-4.

With the win…
  • The Raider men move to 10-0 at home on the season.
  • Northwestern enters a three-way tie atop the conference.
  • Add their 13th game of the season shooting greater than 50% from the field.
Up Next: On Wednesday, the Raiders will travel to Sioux City to take on the Briar Cliff Chargers. Tipoff is 7:45 p.m.
