Northwestern Lands Three Volleyball All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following a 32-1 season that was highlighted by GPAC regular season and tournament titles, the Red Raider volleyball team received more individual accolades. Three Northwestern student-athletes were selected to the NAIA All-American teams in Jazlin Douma, Alysen Dexter, and Zavyr Metzger.

Jazlin Douma – First Team (Outside Hitter)
The 2023 and 2024 GPAC Player of the Year, Douma earns her second career NAIA First Team All-American honor. In 33 matches played this season, she put up 490 kills for a 4.38 kills per set average, leading the conference in both categories and sitting 10th in the NAIA in kills per set. Douma set a new program record with 33 kills in this year's GPAC Championship and also had a career-high seven blocks on the same night. She ends her Red Raider career with 1,393 kills, 223 blocks, and 978 digs in three seasons.

"What a great senior season Jazlin had," head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch said. "She scored a ton of points for us offensively and did that by using a variety of shots. The velocity she put on the ball when she attacked really set a tone for our offense. Jaz was also one of our primary passers and was very instinctive on defense. her competitiveness on the court was also contagious for our team."

Alysen Dexter – First Team (Outside Hitter)
Earning her third career NAIA All-American selection and first selection to the First Team, Dexter closed her career strong, putting up 352 kills at 3.14 per set, with 58 service aces and 57 blocks this season. Dexter led the conference with a 0.52 aces per set mark, also finishing second on the team in total kills. She ends her career as a four-time First Team All-GPAC selection, totaling 1,536 kills, 201 aces, and 764 digs.

"Alysen had another great season for our team," Van Den Bosch added. "She was a tone-setter for our team with the height and velocity she put on her attacks along with setting an aggressive mindset with her serves. Alysen was a dominant force in our lineup for four seasons, which landed her as a First Team All-Conference player for four seasons and a three-time All-American."

Zavyr Metzger – Second Team (Middle Blocker)
After leading the NAIA in blocks per set this season (1.75), Metzger receives her first career All-American nod. She led the Raiders to the top blocking average in the country (3.18), putting up 198 total blocks. She also added 134 kills, a career best in her third year. Entering her senior season, Metzger has 437 career blocks, which is seventh in Northwestern history.

"This is a great honor for Zavyr to be recognized as an All-American," noted Van Den Bosch. "Zavyr's ability to be a dominant force at the net with her blocking was very impressive. Teams had to game plan against her when she was in the front row to avoid her block, and she also hit over .300 on the season, which really helped spread out our offense. To also be recognized as a two-time conference defender of the year as a front row player is a very impressive honor."

Indiana Wesleyan's Eva Joldersma was named the NAIA Player of the Year and Attacker of the Year. Setter of the Year honors went to Abbigail Porter of Indiana Wesleyan, Jamestown's Ellie Holen was named Defender of the Year, and Trish Siedlik of Bellevue was named the NAIA Coach of the Year.
