Four Raiders Honored as CSC Academic All-District Selections

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Four Northwestern volleyball student-athletes have been recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Jazlin Douma, Zavyr Metzger, Liv Reitsma, and Savonne Sterk are Northwestern's honorees, receiving accolades for their work on the court and in the classroom.

Douma, a physical education major from Orange City, Iowa, has been selected twice to the Academic All-District list, also receiving First Team Academic All-America recognition last season. In three years at Northwestern, Douma finished her career with 1,393 kills and 978 digs. She put up 490 kills for 4.38 per set this year, leading the GPAC in both categories. In the GPAC Championship match, Douma recorded a program-record 33 kills. For her efforts, Douma was named the GPAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Metzger, a nursing major from Larchwood, Iowa, receives her second Academic All-District selection after earning First Team Academic All-America accolades last year. The GPAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Metzger was once again one of the top blockers in the country, leading the NAIA at 1.75 blocks per set. She enters her senior season with 437 career blocks, which sits seventh all time at Northwestern.

Reitsma, a sport management major from Papillion, Nebraska, is a first-time CSC Academic All-District honoree. A back-to-back Second Team All-GPAC selection, Reitsma has 2,351 career assists and 735 digs. She averaged 5.74 assists per set and 2.14 digs per set in her junior season.

Sterk, a nursing major from Lynden, Washington, also receives her first CSC Academic All-District award. A First Team All-Conference selection this season, Sterk patrolled the right side with 1.38 kills per set, the second-best average of her career, and 88 blocks. She ends her Red Raider career with 123 matches played.

Douma and Metzger will be placed among the nominees for CSC Academic All-America teams, voted on by members of the organization. Academic All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, January 14.
