Van Kalsbeek Collects 20 Rebounds in Top-15 Win

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Jesse Van Kalsbeek pulled down 20 rebounds, hitting a mark that had not been reached since 2006, in No. 7 Northwestern's 97-77 win at No. 14 Morningside.

"Our guys really played well from start to finish," head coach Kris Korver noted. "I thought our unification, our unity, our playing for each other was evident. We were pretty selfless tonight playing for each other."

The Raiders took an early lead after falling behind 4-0, sparked by Jalen Langsy's three-pointer at the 13:45 mark, which tied the game at 7-7. This was followed by a series of successful threes and layups, including a key triple by Kaleb Booth at 7:38, pushing the Raiders ahead 18-10. The Mustangs attempted to close the gap, with Joey Skoff contributing with both free throws and a layup, but the Raiders maintained their momentum. The half ended with the Raiders leading 48-38, aided by strong performances from Jesse Van Kalsbeek and Alex Van Kalsbeek, who each scored crucial baskets in the paint.

In the second half, the Raiders maintained a strong lead over the Mustangs, outscoring them 49-39. Early in the half, Alex Van Kalsbeek converted two free throws to make it 50-40, and Langsy extended the lead with a trey, increasing the lead to 53-40. The Mustangs attempted to close the gap, but the Red Raiders' consistent scoring, including a notable three by Langsy at 78-61, kept them ahead. Despite some late scoring attempts by the Mustangs, the Raiders maintained their lead through the half, finishing with a 97-77 advantage.
