Seward, Neb.– A rainy day at Concordia led to a crazy match filled with ups and downs, but the Bulldogs just outlasted the Raiders.
The first half was a defensive battle that had a lack of goals for both sides. The Raider back line was extremely solid. They only allowed one shot to get off and none were on goal. The Raiders put on a little pressure with 3 shots and two on goal.
The second half was a vastly different story with 20 combined shots and 9 of them on goal.
The Bulldogs broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute when a long through ball to the left side of the field crossed in and shot into the left side of the net.
Only 5 minutes later, the Bulldogs snuck past Lammerts for a free goal to make it 2-0. But the Raiders did not give up.
3 minutes after that, there was pressure in the box which led to an own goal to make the score 2-1.
This own goal gave the Raiders a jolt of energy as in the 74th minute the Raiders were granted a penalty kick. Stan van den Beld took the shot and scored his 12th goal of the season to make it 2-2.
However, it only took Concordia 30 seconds to reclaim the lead. This goal was enough for the Bulldogs as Northwestern could not muster up another goal.
With the loss, the Red Raider men's soccer team's season ends in a heartbreaking fashion. But they will return a lot of young talent for next season.
