Narrow Victory for Northwestern in GPAC Opener

Orange City, IA - Northwestern hosted Dakota Wesleyan to open up the GPAC wrestling season and earn a narrow 23-21 dual win over the Tigers.

The Raiders had help in this contest as they would pick up two forfeits at 149lbs and 184lbs. It would come down to some big matches down the stretch as the visiting Tigers came into the night receiving votes in the NAIA poll. After Dakota Wesleyan took the first two matches of the night, Cole Rutter would find the bonus point victory in an 18-3 tech fall in the second period. Kaleb Grove followed it up with a decision win at 197lbs giving Northwestern the lead 20-9.

Dakota Wesleyan wouldn't be out of it just yet as they win the next two matches by decision and pin respectively to make it 20-18. In the defining spot at 133lbs, Logan Schroeder sends it to overtime with a late takedown where he'd go on to win it by sudden victory decision with another well-timed takedown. The Tigers would need a pin to win or a tech fall to tie the dual at 141lbs but only earn the decision victory as Northwestern wins the dual, 23-21.
