Wichita, KS – The Northwestern wrestling team opens up their season in the Falcon Open with three wrestlers finding their spot on the podium.
Raider wrestlers were split into two different tournament classes today with
Johnny Burnette and
Kaleb Lind in the Falcon Open Elite and the rest of the squad wrestling in the Falcon Open Amateur. Wrestling on the amateur side of the tournament didn't stop the three podium earners for Northwestern.
Thomas Vance at 184 pounds would lose in the quarterfinal round but battled his way back through the consolations to make it into the third-place match where he would take the loss for a 4
th place finish.
Cade Braun found himself in the third-place match as well at 157 after a loss in the semifinal round. A win by forfeit in that third-place match gave Braun the podium spot.
Finally,
Kaleb Grove made his way through the front side of the bracket all the way to the championship bout. After some big wins in the 197-pound weight class, Grove would fall to Jaren Jackson of Doane to take second place.
No team scores would be posted.
