Regular Season Winning Streak Comes to an End on Homecoming

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Despite scoring on their first drive of the game, the No. 2-ranked Red Raider football team was shocked by Concordia (Neb.) in GPAC action on Saturday.

The Raiders struck first, taking a 13-play, 75-yard drive to the house for a 7-0 lead. It was a methodical drive highlighted by a 16-yard completion to Ty Schafer and ending in a wildcat formation rushing touchdown for Logan Meyer. Defenses held firm in the rest of the quarter, with Northwestern leading by a touchdown after the first.

A long rush play on the first play of the drive set up Concordia in the second quarter, as Mark Arp ran up the middle for 35 yards into Northwestern territory. After getting into the red zone, the Bulldogs found All-American Austin Jablosnki in the end zone for six.

After being tied at the break, Concordia took its first lead of the day on a six-play drive, converting on a 26-yard field goal to make it 10-7. The Bulldogs added another touchdown in the third to extend their lead to 17-7.

With work to do heading into the fourth, Northwestern used a quick, two-minute drive as Colby Duncan found Austyn Gerard, who hustled past the defensive backs to go 67 yards for the score. Points continued to fill the scoreboard as Concordia scored on a back shoulder fade to make it 23-14. On the following possession, Eli Stader nailed a 55-yard field goal, setting the program record for longest made field goal.

Concordia forced a turnover and added on to their lead to ice the game as the Raiders fell in Orange City for the first time since November 6, 2021.
