Second Half of Season Starts with Rout at Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa – Northwestern bounced back after the bye for a convincing win on the road, defeating the Waldorf Warriors 45-7.

"We have had a couple great weeks of practice, and it showed today," head coach Matt McCarty said. "We were able to get off to a great start in all three phases."

The Raiders took off quickly, using an efficient offensive attack on the first drive of the game to move ahead 7-0. A 75-yard drive over 3:49 was capped off with a Logan Meyer touchdown rush, preceded by a 20-yard completion from Hayden Groos to Ty Schafer.

A blocked punt by Malekhi Delaware-Jarrett set up the next scoring opportunity, putting the Raiders at the 22. Konner McQuillan broke off a 21-yard run to come within five yards of the goal line, later punching it in on 2nd down to give his team a 14-0 advantage.

Early in the second, Northwestern found paydirt again as Groos linked up with Austyn Gerard for six, extending the lead to 21-0. Cody Moser then picked off a pass to put the Raiders back in the red zone, where McQuillan crossed the goal line on an 11-yard run.

Following another Logan Meyer touchdown, Northwestern took a 35-0 lead into the locker room as Kole Telford ended Waldorf's hopes of scoring first-half points with the first of his two interceptions on the day.

Telford created his second turnover of the game on the opening drive of the second half, opening up room for a 7-play, 30-yard drive with Logan Meyer getting into the end zone for the third time.

With the game all but over, Eli Stader hit from 33 yards with 13:18 remaining in the fourth to make it 45-7.

Following a tough loss two weeks ago and a week out from competition, it was important for the Raiders to set the tone going into the second half of the season.

"I'm proud of how our guys responded to a setback and have been dialed in," stated McCarty.
