Efficient Raiders Sweep Doane on Friday

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In the second game of their week-long home stand, the top-ranked Northwestern volleyball team took down Doane in straight sets on Friday night.

NWC 3, DOANE (25-17, 25-22, 25-10)
How It Happened
The score flipped between sides to start the first set, with Doane taking the early lead at 8-5. Northwestern regained the advantage at 10-9 on a service ace from Liv Reitsma before going on a 7-1 run later to take an 18-12 lead. Out of the Tiger timeout, the Raiders used a balanced attack to close the set, receiving kills from Savonne Sterk, Zavyr Metzger, Alysen Dexter, and Jazlin Douma.

Set two went to the wire, with neither team creating much of a cushion. A block by Douma and Maddy Sampson made the score 14-9, but Doane later responded with a 5-0 run to take an 18-17 lead and force a Red Raider timeout. Trailing 20-18, Northwestern rattled off a 5-1 run, receiving three big points from Emma Westphal, to move ahead 23-21. Douma gave her team a two-set lead with two kills to send it to the third.

Northwestern scored the first six points of the third to set the tone for the sweep. Holding a 13-8 lead, the Raiders flipped the switch to score 12 of the final 14 points for a 25-10 win.
