Lind Battles Way to Fourth Place Finish at Hastings Open

Ash collects three wins, Sanchez in top-six

HASTINGS, Neb. – Northwestern began the 2024 calendar year with a trip to Nebraska, sending 11 wrestlers to the mat at the Hastings Open. Kaleb Lind led the way with a 3-2 record and a fourth-place finish.

"Overall, it was an up-and-down day," noted head coach Rik Dahl. "We had moments where we wrestled aggressively and those where we were timid. We'll get back to regroup and get ready for Morningside on Wednesday."

After receiving a bye in the first round, Lind took a tech fall, 18-2 win over Nebraska-Kearney's Mitchell Peabody in the second round. He then advanced to the semifinal with a 14-6 major decision before being pinned in the penultimate match of the championship round. Bouncing back with a 15-0 technical fall against Dickinson State's Samuel Adams, Lind finished fourth on the day.

Logan Ash was another Raider wrestler who saw success on Saturday, pinning Hastings' Brad Christensen and picking up two medical forfeit wins.

Finally, Pepe Sanchez won two on the day and advanced to the semifinals but needed to bow out due to injury. In his two bouts, Sanchez defeated Concordia's Sean Duffy by a 12-4 major decision and Dickinson State's Samuel Adams in a 17-12 decision.
