Van Kalsbeek’s Historic Week Leads to GPAC Award

Averaged 31.0 points over three games

SIOUX CITY, Iowa  – Northwestern men's basketball forward Alex Van Kalsbeek has earned GPAC Player of the Week, the conference office announced this morning.

"Alex had a great week. His teammates did a great job getting him the ball, and he was a handful for opponents," head coach Kris Korver stated. "His 52-point performance against Midland and clutch shot at the buzzer to force overtime at Doane helped us win two ball games."

In three games last week, Van Kalsbeek averaged 31.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, highlighted by a school-record 52-point performance against Midland on Monday. Along with his scoring outburst, Van Kalsbeek set the school record for most made field goals in a single game (21).

The sophomore from Sheldon, Iowa followed up his performance with a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double in an overtime win at Doane on Saturday, where he hit a game-tying three to help the Raiders improve to 2-1 on the week. In the win, he also moved into the Raiders' top-10 in all-time scoring, currently sitting at 1,809 career points.

Van Kalsbeek is the first Red Raider men's basketball player to receive a GPAC weekly award this season. It is his first weekly accolade since January 11, 2022, when he was both the GPAC and NAIA Player of the Week.
