Raiders Handle Chargers with Balanced Effort

Moser reaches career-high 16 points

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Five Red Raiders score in double digits and the Northwestern men's basketball team (13-3, 6-2 GPAC) used a big second half to take down the Briar Cliff Chargers (9-7, 3-5 GPAC).

The matchup started with Kaleb Booth and Briar Cliff senior Quinn Vesey trading a pair of three-pointers each to level the game at six all. The momentum quickly shifted Briar Cliff's way when they found nylon on five more threes, making seven of their first eight three-point attempts of the game, helping their lead swell to a 14-point margin with five minutes remaining in the half. The Raiders would go on a much needed 6-0 run capped by a transition dunk by Marcus Kelderman. Craig Sterk then announced his presence with back-to-back three-pointers to pull the Raiders within two. The half ended with a highlight, as a perfectly placed Hunter Berry pass on an inbound play gave Zach LaFave an opportunity to score with 0.7 seconds left of the clock. He muscled an and-one and capped off the three-point play at the free throw line to send the Raiders into halftime with a 46-43 lead.

The hot shooting continued into the second half for the Raiders, and a 17-4 run starting 2 minutes into the half, capped by a Dillon Carlson 3 pointer would give the Northwestern a 15-point lead. The double-digit lead would hold for the rest of the half peaking at 22, and the Raiders cruised to a 92-77 victory.

"Briar Cliff shot it really well to start the game, but the group we had on the floor late in the half played with a lot of energy," commented head coach Kris Korver. "I thought our guys were dialed in to start the second half. Our guys weathered the storm and played really good basketball together."
