Raider Defense Shines in 1-0 Win

van den Beld hits goal from corner kick attempt

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – A goal from Stan van den Beld on a corner kick attempt was the lone score in Northwestern's (7-3-1, 3-1-1 GPAC) shutout win over Jamestown (2-7-3, 1-3-2 GPAC) on Saturday afternoon.

Preceding Northwestern's senior day festivities, the Red Raiders controlled the tempo throughout the first half, attempting eight shots, including two shots on goal, in the opening 45 minutes without any finding the back of the net. The opening frame went by in a scoreless tie.

In the first five minutes of the second period, van den Beld (Jr., Voorhout, Netherlands) lined up for a corner kick attempt, sending it past teammates and defenders in the box and into the right corner for the first and only goal of the match. He now has a team-leading eight goals this year.

The Raider defense continued to hold firm, only allowing two shots in the second frame, celebrating a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) win along with their 13 seniors.

MATCH NOTES
  • Stan van den Beld now holds sole possession of second place in the GPAC in goals scored (8).
  • Tim Kaltenberger (Sr., Cologne, Germany) tied his career-high with five shot attempts.
