Kaltenberger Nets Two in Shutout Win

Northwestern with five shutout wins in 2023

YANKTON, S.D.  – The Northwestern men's soccer team (6-3-1, 2-1-1 GPAC) took to the road for a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) tilt, earning a 6-0 win over the Mount Marty Lancers (1-4-3, 0-3-1 GPAC) on Wednesday night.

Following a red card on Mount Marty's goalkeeper, Tim Kaltenberger (Sr., Cologne, Germany) was chosen to line up for the penalty kick, converting on the attempt to give Northwestern the early 1-0 lead. He would not stop there, however, as he doubled the Raider lead with a goal off of the feed from Stan van den Beld (Jr., Voorhout, Netherlands).

The Raiders drew another penalty kick opportunity in the 29th minute, and this time it was Marco Alessio (Sr., Chioggia, Italy) who extended the Northwestern lead, scoring his first goal since 2021.

With 21 minutes passed in the second half, Northwestern attempted their fourth penalty kick of the match, using van den Beld, who scored his seventh goal of the year. Holding a 4-0 lead late, Francisco Quiroga (Fr., Santiago, Chile) hit his first-career goal in his third collegiate appearance.

Less than 20 seconds later, Luc Roelofs (Sr., Balgoij, Netherlands) scored for the first time in his career on a penalty kick to cement the 6-0 win for the Red Raiders.
