Northwestern Draws with No. 25 Concordia

Kaltenberger converts on two PK goals

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – Tim Kaltenberger scored two goals on penalty kick attempts as Northwestern (5-3-1, 1-1-1 GPAC) held even with No. 25 Concordia (Neb.) (8-0-1, 2-0-1 GPAC) on a rain-soaked day in Orange City.

The Bulldogs got on the board early when Jarrod Henson jumped for a header attempt off of the pass from Victor Meneses, giving Concordia a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

In a defensive battle that saw the rest of the first half tally only three total shot attempts, the Raiders came out of the half with an aggressive style. A crowded play in the box led to a Northwestern penalty kick, as Tim Kaltenberger (Sr., Cologne, Germany) used a stutter step to send the keeper to the other side of the net, knotting the match up at 1-1.

Kobi Baccam (Sr., Hull, Iowa) was the next Red Raider to draw a foul in the box, setting Kaltenberger up for his second penalty-kick goal, giving Northwestern a 2-1 lead with 30 minutes to play.

Concordia answered less than two minutes later, as Isaiah Shaddick took a pass on the right side and sent it to the back of the net to draw even once again.

Both defenses held firm the rest of the way, putting a blemish on Concordia's 8-0 record in a hard-fought Great Plains Athletic Conference tilt.
