Raiders Post Second Shutout of Season at Pizza Ranch Classic

Dunlap scores pair of goals, finishes weekend with three

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – Julie Dunlap scored twice as Northwestern (2-2-0, 0-0-0 GPAC) came out of the halftime break on a mission, leading to a 3-0 shutout over Friends (Kan.) (1-3-1, 0-0-0 KCAC).

Each side employed an aggressive attack in the first half, despite the fatigue caused by the late-summer heat. Between the two teams, 20 shots were taken in the opening 45, with the Falcons having multiple chances go just wide of the post.

The Raiders struck first after just three minutes of play in the second half, as Aliza Edwards (Fr., Spencer, Iowa) broke the tie on a centered shot past the keeper for the second goal of her young collegiate career.

Six minutes later, Dunlap (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) added to her goals total to double Northwestern's lead.

At the 58' mark, Dunlap converted on a penalty kick when Marissa Talamantes (Fr., Marshall, Minn.) drew a foul in the box. It was the second-straight match in which Dunlap hit a PK goal, and her third PK goal of the year.
