No. 3 Red Raiders Tame Tigers in Front of Home Crowd

Emmy Wedgbury was stellar behind the service line; tallies four aces

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 3-ranked Northwestern College women's volleyball team (11-1, 3-1 GPAC) tallied their 11th sweep of the season tonight in a straight sets win over (RV) Dakota Wesleyan University (10-7, 1-1 GPAC) Wednesday night inside the Bultman Center.
The game plan Northwestern utilized entering the match worked. Quiet the arm of middle hitter Ady Dwight, who entered the night third in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and attack early and often on the young Tiger squad. The Tigers would never lead by more than two points all match long, both being at the very beginning of both sets one and three.

Dakota Wesleyan jumped out to a 3-1 lead early until Emmy Wedgbury (Jr., Cedar Falls, Iowa) stepped back to serve. With Wedgbury behind the service line, the Red Raiders rallied off three-straight points to take their first lead of the night at 5-3 and never looked back, nor would it be the last time Wedgbury led a rally behind the service line. DWU's final point of the set came on a Dwight kill making it 14-10 Northwestern. After a Jazlin De Haan (Jr., Orange City, Iowa) kill after the side out, it was once again, Wedgbury would step back to serve. She would be instrumental in the 10-0 run to close out the set, picking up two of her four service aces, as the Red Raiders raced out to the 25-10 first set victory. In the set, De Haan put down eight kills with 0.412 percentage.

Northwestern took full control of set two when it was, who else but Wedgbury who took the ball to serve as NWC jumped out to an 8-3 run. The two teams would trade points for a while until it was 14-12 NWC, as it was, once again, the server of the match in Wedgbury would step up. Northwestern would tally 10 of the set's last 14 points, taking the 2-0 match lead.

It was more of the same in the third set. DWU took the first two points before the Red Raiders went on a 9-1 run with Wedgbury serving, leading 9-3. The Tigers would show some fight and battle back to make it 14-12 NWC, but after a Red Raider time out, would not get any closer. A pair of kills from Grace Tobin (Sr., Mason City, Iowa) and Alysen Dexter (Jr., Urbandale, Iowa) would seal the deal on the match, following the time out. The Tigers would pull within two again (16-14 NWC), but a 9-2 Northwestern run would see the Raiders complete the sweep with a 25-16 victory.
