Northwestern Falls 2-0 to Fighting Saints to End Montana Trip

Abby Bastion collects a career-high 16 saves

HELENA, Mont. – The Northwestern College women's soccer (0-2, 0-0 GPAC) team fell on the road to the Carroll University (Mont.) Fighting Saints (1-0, 0-0 CCC) 2-0 in their final match of the trip out west to Montana on Saturday evening.
 
The Fighting Saints came out with a lot of offensive pressure in the first half, putting up 22 shots with 12 on-goal but the Red Raider goalkeeper Abby Bastian (Brandon, S.D.) would keep Carroll off the board with 12 saves.
 
Carroll would break through and break the 0-0 tie in the 60th minute when Emily Funseth found the back of the net in an unassisted goal. In the 71st minute, the Fighting Saints would put their second goal on the scoreboard when Jaymee Sheridan found the back of the net.
 
The second half saw the Red Raiders put up four shots, three of which being on goal. Julie Dunlap (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) put up a team-high two shots with one of them being on-goal.
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • Carroll outshot the Raiders 34-4 on the match, also holding the advantage in corner kick opportunities (7-2).
  • The Raiders put up four shots with three being on-goal, Julie Dunlap put up two of the four shots.
  • Senior goalkeeper Abby Bastian sets a career-high in saves in the first half (12), tallied 16 on the match in total.
Up Next: Northwestern will host the Pizza Ranch Classic next weekend over Labor Day Weekend in Orange City with a clash against Central Baptist (Ark.) on Friday, September 1 from the NWC Soccer Complex.
