Raiders Earn 30th Win of Season in 2-0 Day at Concordia

Etherington, Strasser record multi-RBI games

SEWARD, Neb. – In what was their first true road game of the season, Northwestern (31-2, 8-0 GPAC) surpassed the 30-win mark for the second time under head coach Shane Bouman, defeating the Concordia (Neb.) Bulldogs (12-21, 1-9 GPAC) in a conference sweep.

GAME 1: NWC 6, CUNE 0

Pitching Decisions
Win: Kameryn Etherington (14-2)
Loss: M. Eurich (8-7)
Save: Kate Kralik (3)

How It Happened
A shutout by the pitching duo of Kameryn Etherington (Jr., Algona, Iowa) and Kate Kralik (So., Indianola, Iowa) was a key factor in what would be the 30th win of the season for the Red Raiders.

Etherington got the scoring started at the plate in the first frame, as a base hit with two runners in scoring position and two outs gave Northwestern an early 2-0 lead.

The Raiders would add two more runs in their half of the third, as it was Etherington again driving in the run, hitting her first triple of the season down the right field line to drive in Chloe Gallegos (So., Carroll, Iowa) from first. In the next at-bat, Maddie Kvatek (Jr., Stevens Point, Wis.) knocked in her 19th RBI of the year to bring Etherington home.

With Etherington and the Northwestern defense only giving up one hit through her 4.2 innings of work, Kralik came in to finish the job. The Raiders then put the game away in the seventh, scoring two runs on two RBI singles from Madysn Grotewold (Jr., Larchwood, Iowa) and Gallegos.

Game Notes
  • Kameryn Etherington only allowed one hit to Concordia, striking out six batters.
  • At the plate, she drove in three runs and had a 3-4 game.
  • Chloe Gallegos went 2-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.

GAME 2: NWC 8, CUNE 3

Pitching Decisions
Win: Ellie Jacobson (6-0)
Loss: J. Rowe (3-9)
Save: Kate Kralik (4)

How It Happened
The Raider offense was on full display in the game two victory, as Northwestern defeated the Bulldogs 8-3.

Northwestern's first run came in on a fielding error in the first before they added three more in the second. Emily Strasser (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) hit a two-out single with two runners on to push the Raider lead to 3-0. In the next at-bat, Chloe Gallegos doubled into center to send Strasser home and make the score 4-0.

Ellie Jacobson (Jr., Humboldt, Iowa) pitched five shutout innings before Concordia got on the board in the sixth. A pair of doubles and an RBI single prompted a pitching change with the score 6-3, while Kate Kralik got the final two outs to move on to the seventh.

With the Raider lead cut in half, Strasser would single through the left side with runners at the corners, adding insurance runs for Kralik, who would finish the day with her fourth save of the year.

Game Notes

"We had great team wins – today was all about working on performing to our standards," said junior pitcher Ellie Jacobson. "As the day went on we improved on that as a team. We were all grateful to be able to play the game we love on such a beautiful day."

Up Next: Northwestern will travel to Des Moines for a midseason non-conference matchup against (RV) Grand View. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. at Richard O. Jacobson Field.
