Fighting for GPAC Positioning, Raiders to Face Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty

Four games remain on the regular season schedule

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – (RV) Northwestern (17-7, 10-6 GPAC) enters the week in a close race ahead of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) tournament, currently sitting in fourth place. With important games on the horizon, the Raiders look to finish strong, starting with matchups against Dakota Wesleyan (12-12, 8-8 GPAC) and Mount Marty (9-16, 5-12 GPAC) this week.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • NWC split the season series with Doane, winning 94-52 on Saturday.
  • Five Raiders scored in double-figures - Sterk (20), Onken (19), Carlson (18), Geddes (12), and LaFave (10).
  • It was NWC's largest margin of victory this season (42 points).
  • The Raiders shot lights out, making 65% of their shots, the highest mark of the season.
  • Doane's 52 points was the least Northwestern has given up this year.
NORTHWESTERN NOTES:
  • Craig Sterk is now 22nd all-time in career points, with 1,480, and is just 33 rebounds from joining the 700-rebound club.
  • He is on track to become the 21st Raider to score 1,500 points.
  • With the GPAC tournament on the horizon, the Raiders currently sit in fourth in the conference.
  • NWC has reached 10 GPAC wins for the seventh consecutive season.
  • Head coach Kris Korver has used the starting five of Geddes, DeMeuleneare, Carlson, Onken, and Sterk in 19 games.
THE SERIES:
Dakota Wesleyan
  • Northwestern leads the all-time series 49-34
  • The Raiders and Tigers meet for the second time in the past 10 days, with Dakota Wesleyan winning 64-63 on January 30.
  • It was the first home loss of the year for the Raiders.
  • Craig Sterk had a program-record six blocks, as Northwestern blocked a program-high 11 shots as a team.
  • Sterk also scored 20 points and secured nine rebounds.
  • The Raiders are looking for their first win in Mitchell since February 13, 2013, when they defeated the Tigers 86-83.
Mount Marty
  • Northwestern has won 43 of their 47 meetings with the Lancers.
  • The Raiders have won the last six matchups, and 20 of the last 21.
  • Most recently, the Raiders defeated the Lancers in Yankton, 76-73 on January 11.
  • Dillon Carlson led all scorers with 22 points, while Craig Sterk notched a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double.
HOME COOKIN'
  • Despite a loss to Dakota Wesleyan last Monday, the Raiders are 9-1 on their home court this season.
  • Since the 2020-21 season, the Raiders are 38-4 (.905) on their home court.
  • They have surpassed 10 home wins in each season dating back to 2016-17.
LEADING THE WAY
  • NWC is controlling the defensive glass, leading the GPAC and sitting fourth in the NAIA in defensive rebounds per game (31.2).
  • Additionally, the Raiders are first in the GPAC in assists (17.4), opponent FG% (41.2%), and rebounds per game (39.2).
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
  • The Tigers are 3-3 in their last six games, with a 64-63 win against Northwestern last Monday.
  • They return to the court after a week away, last facing Jamestown (L, 84-71) on February 1.
  • Senior forward Koln Oppold leads the team in points (14.5) and assists (5.0) per game.
  • Head coach Matt Wilber, in his 10th season at DWU, has been an assistant at South Dakota State, Sioux Falls, and Augustana (S.D.).
SCOUTING THE LANCERS:
  • Last time out, Mount Marty defeated Hastings 82-78 to snap a four-game losing skid.
  • Tash Lunday leads the team in scoring at 20.4 points per game, currently sitting second in the conference. Lunday also adds 7.7 rebounds per game, which is fourth in the GPAC.
  • Head coach Collin Authier is in his second season with the Lancers, previously serving as an assistant at Augustana (S.D.) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
