Raiders Get Back on Track with Largest Win of the Season

Northwestern sees balanced scoring as Sterk has 20, Onken adds 19, and Carlson scores 18

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – (RV) Northwestern (17-7, 10-6 GPAC) defeated Doane (10-14, 7-9 GPAC) in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play on Saturday, avenging a loss to the Tigers earlier this season. The hot-shooting Raiders held Doane in check all day and ended a two-game skid with the win.

The Raiders shot lights out in the first half, at one point reaching 94% shooting from the field. After the score was knotted at 4-4 with 16:54 remaining, Matt Onken (R-Jr., Marshall, Minn.) sparked a 12-0 run with a three. Doane added a three-point play, after which Northwestern responded with another run, this time outscoring the Tigers 27-2 over nine minutes of play.

It was a similar story in the second half as the Raiders were locked in offensively. Taking a 25-point lead into the locker room, Northwestern came out of the gate with an 11-2 run and eventually stretched their advantage to 41 points on a layup from Grant DeMeulenaere (Sr., Altoona, Iowa).

Minutes later, Craig Sterk (Jr., McBain, Mich.) got the crowd on its feet, slamming home an alley-oop dunk from Kaleb Booth (Fr., Carroll, Iowa), before dunking it home again to stretch Northwestern's lead to 49 points, their largest of the game. The Raiders continued to cruise toward the finish line, also adding in a three from Ethan Klompien (Jr., Orange City, Iowa) to close things out in the final minutes.

"Our guys were locked in from the start," said head coach Kris Kover. "They had a bad taste in their mouth from the last outing, and I thought they prepared well and we really competed tonight."
