Raiders Set for Final Week of Regular Season

Northwestern in line to host GPAC Quarterfinal matchup

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The end of the regular season is on the horizon for the Northwestern men's basketball team (19-7, 12-6 GPAC) as they get set for two Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchups this week. The Raiders will host (RV) Dordt (21-5, 13-5 GPAC) on Wednesday in a battle for tournament seeding before traveling to Hastings (13-13, 6-12 GPAC) on Saturday for the regular season finale.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • After trailing by four at halftime, the Raiders defeated Mount Marty 90-67 at home on Saturday, scoring 51 second-half points.
  • Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) scored a career-high 35 points on eight threes.
  • Craig Sterk (Jr., McBain, Mich.) had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.
  • It was his 17th-career double-double and seventh of the season.
NORTHWESTERN NOTES:
  • Craig Sterk is now 22nd all-time in career points, with 1,512, and is just two rebounds from joining the 700-rebound club.
  • With the GPAC tournament on the horizon, the Raiders currently sit in fourth in the conference.
  • NWC has reached 10 GPAC wins for the seventh consecutive season.
  • Head coach Kris Korver has used the starting five of Geddes, DeMeuleneare, Carlson, Onken, and Sterk in 21 games.
THE SERIES:
Dordt
  • Northwestern leads the all-time series 84-34.
  • In the last meeting, NWC erased a 15-point halftime deficit to force overtime, but Dordt won 93-89 in Sioux Center.
  • Conner Geddes (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Dillon Carlson each scored 25 points.
  • Northwestern has won three of the last four meetings.
Hastings
  • Northwestern is 42-23 all-time against Hastings.
  • The Raiders have won the last eight meetings, as Hastings last defeated Northwestern on December 15, 2018.
  • In the last meeting on January 7, Northwestern won 74-63 in the Bultman Center.
  • Craig Sterk recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards.
  • Dillon Carlson led all scorers with 24 points.
HOME COOKIN'
  • Despite a one-point loss to Dakota Wesleyan on January 30, the Raiders are 10-1 on their home court this season.
  • Since the 2020-21 season, NWC is 39-4 in the Bultman Center.
  • They have surpassed 10 home wins each year since 2016-17.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  • Dillon Carlson has been named GPAC and NAIA Player of the Week for his performances against Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty.
  • He notched career-highs in both games, scoring 29 on Wednesday and following up with 35 points on Saturday.
  • The senior also notched career-bests in threes made (8) and made field goals (12).

LEADING THE WAY
  • NWC is controlling the defensive glass, leading the GPAC and sitting fifth in the NAIA in defensive rebounds per game (30.8).
  • Additionally, the Raiders are first in the GPAC in assists (17.2), opponent FG% (41.3%), and rebounds per game (39.0).
SCOUTING THE DEFENDERS:
  • Dordt enters the week on a seven-game winning streak.
  • Forward/Center Jacob Vis leads the team in points (19.8) and rebounds (7.6).
  • Guard Bryce Coppock is also a scoring threat at 16.8 points per game.
  • The Defenders lead the GPAC in points per game (91.2), FG% (54.6%), and 3PT% (40.4%)
  • Head coach Brian Van Haaften is in his fourth season at Dordt after 20+ years at Buena Vista.
  • Van Haaften is a Northwestern graduate and played college ball with NWC coach Kris Korver.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
  • Entering the week, Hastings sits one game behind Doane and Briar Cliff for the final spot in the GPAC tournament. Doane holds the tiebreaker over Briar Cliff and Hastings.
  • Entering the week, the Broncos are on a seven-game losing skid.
  • Freshman guard Reggie Thomas has scored at least 20 points in four consecutive outings.
  • Thomas is sixth in the conference in points per game (19.5).
