Women Victorious on Senior Day; Downs Mount Marty 78-58

Maddie Jones records first-career double-double on Senior Day

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The (RV) Northwestern College women's basketball team (18-8, 13-7 GPAC) downed the Mount Marty Lancers (7-19, 4-16 GPAC) on Senior Day inside the Bultman Center, 78-58 behind a double-double from senior Maddie Jones.
Northwestern got off to a fast start on Senior Day inside the Bultman Center behind eight first quarter points from Molly Schany (Jr., Emmetsburg, Iowa). The Raiders jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead with Taylor VanderVelde (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) notching five points in that stretch. Mount Marty made a push, cutting the lead to three points but NWC went on another run to make it a double-digit lead after one quarter, 23-13.

The Raiders pushed their lead up to as many as 19 points in the second quarter, as the Lancers would never get within 13 points before the half. Northwestern led 38-25 at the break, as Schany was the lone Raider to notch double digit points at the halftime break with 12 points.

NWC kept their distance in the second half, as the Raiders led by double digits the rest of the way. Emilee Danner (Sr., Westside, Iowa) scored nearly half the Red Raiders 20 third quarter points with her nine in the quarter.

In the final frame, Northwestern used a 9-0 run to seal the deal, leading 72-49 with four minutes left in the quarter. The Raider bench got in on the action for the rest of the contest, as 13 Raiders saw minutes and 11 scored in the Senior Day victory, winning 78-58.
