Carlson Hits Career Mark Again, Lifts Raiders Over Mount Marty

Sterk surpasses 1,500-point career milestone

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Dillon Carlson scored a career-high 35 points and Craig Sterk recorded a double-double to propel Northwestern (19-7, 12-6 GPAC) to the win on Senior Day, 90-67 over Mount Marty (9-18, 5-14 GPAC).

It was a tale of two halves in Orange City on Saturday, as Mount Marty held an advantage for over half of the opening frame. Despite the Raiders jumping out to a lead as high as seven points on a three from Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) with 13:29 on the clock, the Lancers inched back in to eventually tie it at 19-19 ahead of the 11-minute mark.

Mount Marty built up a 10-point advantage on a Tash Lunday layup with 2:19 remaining before Northwestern went on a quick 8-0 run in the final two minutes, with Carlson scoring five and Grant DeMeulenaere (Sr., Altoona, Iowa) burying a three. The Lancers added a bucket before the half to make the score 43-39 at the break.

As they have done numerous times this season, Northwestern was aggressive out of the gate to begin the second half. Sterk opened the second with a three, which is where he and Carlson scored all but two points in a 22-5 run, giving the Raiders a 61-48 lead.

It was all Northwestern from there, as Kaleb Booth (Fr., Carroll, Iowa) pushed the Raider lead over 20 points on a three with 9:44 to go. Mount Marty did hold Northwestern scoreless for a near five-minute stretch, but the Raiders kept their foot on the gas and capped off the win with a driving dunk from Carter Van Hulzen (Fr., Edgerton, Minn.) to bid farewell to the seniors in exciting fashion.

"It wasn't the prettiest game but I thought our guys finished the first half well, helping us establish ourselves on both ends of the floor in the second half," said head coach Kris Korver. "We did what we needed to do today."
