Anderson Has Career Day in 80-53 Road Win at Hastings

Red Raiders shoot a season-best 50.0% from the floor

HASTINGS, Neb. – Behind a career day for junior guard Hali Anderson, the (RV) Northwestern College women's basketball team (5-3, 2-2 GPAC) got back in the win column, cruising to an 80-53 win on the road at Hastings College on Saturday afternoon. Anderson set a new career-high with eight rebounds, while also tying her career-high with a game-high 19 points.

"It's been a tremendous week for Hali," said head coach Kristin Rotert. "She made many big plays in both our games (this week) and really stabilized is on the offensive end of the floor."

It was back and forth early on from Lynn Farrell Arena but the Red Raiders would find their shooting groove late. With two minutes left, Akaysa Duitscher (Fr., Rolfe, Iowa) gave Northwestern their largest lead of the contest with a 3-pointer to make it 19-11. The Red Raiders would take a 19-15 advantage after a small run by the Broncos to close out the first 10 minutes, with Anderson (Jr., Saint Ansgar, Iowa) leading the way with seven first quarter points. For the junior, it would prove to be just a strong start to a memorable game.

In the second quarter, Northwestern opened a 23-15 lead before back-to-back Hastings' three-pointers helped pull the Broncos even in the first minutes of the second quarter. The Red Raiders would then break-off a 14-point run to end the half, leading 37-23 at the break. The run saw Northwestern hold Hastings to 0-for-9 shooting from the floor

Anderson and Molly Schany (Sr., Emmetsburg, Iowa) paced the team with a combined 24 points of the team's 37, Schany putting up six in the run to end the half. Anderson and Ashtyn Wobig (So., Canova, S.D.) both brought down five rebounds in the half.

The run continued into the third quarter, being a 21-3 run to open up a 44-26 lead, holding the Broncos scoreless for nearly the first three minutes of the second half. It proved to be a balanced scoring attack for the Red Raiders in the third. No one scored more than four points of the team's 21 in the frame, while holding Hastings to just 13 points. Later in the quarter, the game would be firmly in the hands of Northwestern, opening up a 20-point lead, leading 58-36 at the end of three.

The final 10 minutes saw the Red Raiders put up the most points of any quarter in the game with 22, as Kylie Foss (So., Brandon, S.D.) and Payton Beckman (So., Panora, Iowa) both recorded five points off the bench. Shooting a solid 56 percent from the floor allowed the Red Raiders to keep the pressure on, prevailing 80-53 and leaving Nebraska with a 27-point win.
