Northwestern Collects Seven Wins in Front of Home Crowd

Program records hit in technical falls and match points

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Four technical falls and 99 match points set new program records in a dual as Northwestern (1-0, 0-0 GPAC) defeated Buena Vista (0-1, 0-0 ARC) 32-12 in the Bultman Center on Thursday.

"Really proud of the way our guys battled tonight. Statistically it was one of our best performances and was evidence of our focus on attacking in scoring points," said head coach Rik Dahl. "These guys worked hard, and their action got the crowd into the duel. I tell the guys the people want to come and see a bunch of points put up."

The first two wins were collected by Johnny Burnette (So. Spirit Lake, Iowa) and Trey Schuck (Jr., Sibley, Iowa), taking two tech fall victories before Brody Hoversten (So., Alden, Iowa) and Cole Rutter (So., Fostoria, Iowa) both won decisions to put the Raiders ahead 16-12.

Following a forfeit at 184, Northwestern expanded its lead with another pair of tech fall wins for Kaleb Lind (Jr., Lindenhurst, Ill.) at 197 and Jaxson Hildebrand (Fr., Denison, Iowa).

"I think Jaxson's match was probably the most exciting match I've seen in a while at heavyweight," Dahl commented. "I loved the way he kept attacking, even though he was exhausted. That tells me we have something pretty special from the young man from Denison."

Up Next: Northwestern will hit the road on Saturday, going to Des Moines for the Grand View Open.
