Raider Wrestlers Continue Season at Falcon Invite

Hildebrand finishes third, Hoversten fourth

WICHITA, Kan. – Jaxson Hildebrand and Brody Hoversten were the top finishers for Northwestern today at the Falcon Invite, held at the Hartman Arena, home of this year's National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Championships.

"Our guys wrestled well today," head coach Rik Dahl noted. "We had a lot of older guys wrestle for the first time this season and lose some tight matches to some nationally ranked opponents. We know we need to clean up a few positions and get better with our reattacks but overall, I'm very pleased."

In his first collegiate wrestling tournament, Hildebrand (Fr., Denison, Iowa) went 4-1, taking third place in 285 pounds. After starting the year on the Red Raider football team, Hildebrand took his talents to the mat and it paid off with a solid debut, winning by fall and a major decision on his way to a top-three finish.

Another highlight for the Raiders was Hoversten (So., Alden, Iowa) in the 165 bracket. He found his way to the third-place match after dropping the semifinal 10-4, winning his previous bouts on a 4-1 decision and a pin.

"I'm excited to think about how this team is going to grow this season," Dahl commented.

Up Next: The Raiders will have their first dual of the year, welcoming Buena Vista to the Bultman Center on Thursday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m.
