Northwestern Embarks on GPAC Road Trip

Raiders to face Dordt and Hastings this week

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – The No. 18-ranked Northwestern Red Raiders (6-0, 2-0 GPAC) will be tested this week as they face cross-county rivals No. 23 Dordt on Wednesday and meet Hastings on Saturday. Northwestern enters the week on a six-game winning streak to start the season, their best start since 2021.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Raiders erased a three-point halftime deficit to defeat Jamestown 74-61 on November 21.
  • Craig Sterk scored a season-high 24 points, while Zach LaFave had a career-high five blocks.
  • Also scoring in double-figures were Kaleb Booth and Dillon Carlson.
NORTHWESTERN NOTES
  • Head coach Kris Korver begins his 24th season at the helm of the Red Raider men's basketball program.
  • The Raiders put their undefeated record on the line, going 6-0 to start the season.
  • Their six-game winning streak to start the year is the best since 2021-22, when they started 7-0.
  • Dillon Carlson has scored in double-figures in each of Northwestern's six contests.

Dordt
  • Northwestern holds a 32-20 lead in the all-time series.
  • Should both teams remain in the NAIA top-25, it will be the first top-25 matchup between the schools since January 30, 2013.
  • The teams split their regular season meetings a year ago.
  • In the last meeting, a Craig Sterk buzzer beater gave the Raiders an 88-87 win.
  • Northwestern has won four of the last five meetings.

Hastings
  • Northwestern leads the all-time series 28-15.
  • Hastings took the last meeting, 69-64 in last year's regular season finale.
  • Prior to that loss, the Raiders had won eight-straight against the Broncos.
LEADERS OF THE 'PAC
  • The 2023-24 edition of the GPAC preseason poll slated the Raiders in second place, just one vote behind first-place Morningside.
  • A top-four finish in last year's conference standings, along with the returning talent from last year, once again primes the Raiders for a successful year.
  • Northwestern has finished in the top-four of the GPAC standings in each of the last four seasons.
MILESTONE WATCH
  • Craig Sterk became the 18th Raider all-time to score 1,600 points during the opening weekend of the season.
  • He is four points from moving into 15th on the all-time scoring list.
  • Alex Van Kalsbeek reached 1,500 career points in Saturday's win against Concordia.
RANKED RAIDERS
  • Northwestern received a No. 21 ranking in the preseason NAIA top-25.
  • They moved up to No. 18 in the second poll on November 8.
  • It is their highest ranking in the one-division era, which began in 2020.
SCOUTING THE DEFENDERS
  • Dordt currently has the top offense in the GPAC, scoring 90.9 points per game on 49.8% shooting.
  • The Defenders have two 20+ point scorers in Lucas Lorenzen (21.7) and Bryce Coppock (20.0).
  • The head coach of the Defenders is Northwestern College alum Brian Van Haaften.
  • Van Haaften is fifth among active NAIA coaches in wins (526), two behind Northwestern head coach Kris Korver.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
  • Hastings enters the week with an unblemished GPAC record (3-0), sitting 6-2 overall.
  • Sophomore guard Reggie Thomas has led the team in scoring in all but one game.
  • Thomas, the reigning GPAC Freshman of the Year, is second in the league with 24.1 points per game.
  • Todd Raridon is in his second season as the head coach of the Broncos.
