Red Raiders Hit the Road for a Pair of GPAC Games This Week

Northwestern makes a trip to Sioux Center and Hastings, Neb.

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Coming off an over a week break for Thanksgiving, the (RV) Northwestern College women's basketball team will hit the road for a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) contests, visiting No. 2-ranked Dordt on Wednesday night and a trip to Hastings, Neb. on Saturday for a clash with the Hastings Broncos on Saturday afternoon.

THE SHOOTAROUND
  • NWC is set to play their third NAIA top-25 opponent of the month of November against Dordt.
  • Head coach Kristin Rotert is two wins away from moving into fifth all-time in program history in career wins.
  • The Red Raiders had their best 3-point shooting game of the season against Jamestown, shooting 40.0% from deep (8-for-20).
  • Maddie Jones sits seventh-place all-time in program history for career assists.
  • NWC has not lost this season when leading at the half (5-0) or when wearing their red uniforms (3-0).
  • Molly Schany sits second in the GPAC in scoring (19.9ppg) and third in rebounding (8.3rpg).
  • Schany also moved into 17th all-time in program history in scoring (1,392) against UJ, notching double digit points in every game this season.  
  • Anderson has been the biggest three-point threat for the Red Raiders this season at 42.9% (12-for-28).
  • Jones (36) and Anderson (27) continue to sit second and third in the GPAC in total assists.
  • Twice this season the Red Raiders have notched 50+ rebounds in a game, doing so just three times in 30 games last season.
  • Under Rotert, Northwestern is 29-7 (.806) inside the Bultman Center.
  • The trio of Schany, Anderson, and Jones have scored 55% of the team's points this season; also marking the most minutes averaged on the team.
ANDERSON HEATING UP FROM DEEP
  • Hali Anderson leads the team with her 42.9% clip from deep this season.
  • The mark sits eighth in the GPAC entering the week.
  • To date, she's hit nearly 40% of the team's 3-pointers (37.5%, 12 makes).
  • She hit three of her four attempts against UJ last Tuesday.
  • She hit a season-high four 3-pointers against Mayville Sate in the Pizza Ranch Classic (4-for-5).
SECOND HALF PRODUCTION
  • NWC has been solid in the second half of games this season, outscoring opponents 278-257 (+21).
  • The Raiders are shooting nearly five percent better in the second half than the first half (.466 2H, .434 1H).
  • However, the best shooting quarter this season has been the second quarter at 49.0%, but the fourth quarter is not far behind at a 47.3% clip.
  • Last time out against Jamestown, NWC shot 46.2% from the floor in the second half (12-for-26).
ROTERT'S RAIDERS…
  • Are 27-4 when totaling fewer turnovers than the opponent (12-0 in 2021-22).
  • Are 26-11 when outrebounding the opponent.
  • Are 8-9 against teams ranked inside the NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll (at the time of the contest).
SERIES HISTORY – DORDT
  • Northwestern leads the all-time series 71-20 against the Defenders.
  • Northwestern won the last meeting last season to conclude the regular season home slate with a 58-48 win over then No. 4-ranked Dordt on February 15.
  • Rotert holds a career record of 2-2 against the Defenders.
SERIES HISTORY – HASTINGS
  • Hastings holds the 34-28 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The Broncos took the last meeting, 58-40, in Hastings to end the regular season (Feb. 18, 2023).
  • Rotert is 2-2 against the Broncos and looks for her first-career win against them in Hastings.
SCOUTING THE DEFENDERS
  • Dordt enters Wednesday with a perfect 8-0 (3-0 GPAC) record and comes off a massive 90-52 road victory over Morningside prior to Thanksgiving.
  • The Defenders leads the GPAC with their 51.5 rebounds per game and their 19.8 offensive boards per contest mark.
  • A trio of Defenders average double-digit points per game, led by Bailey Beckman at 14.1ppg.
  • Janie Schoonhoven paces the GPAC with her 8.9 points per game, while also shooting a league-best 67.4% from the floor and averages 10.5 points per game.
  • Macy Sievers has been lights out from deep this season, shooting a stellar 52.6% from 3-point range
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
  • The Broncos enter the week with a 3-4 (1-2 GPAC) mark, and will host the Doane Tigers on Wednesday.
  • Hastings is coming off an 81-62 win over Midland last Tuesday before Thanksgiving, with a season-high 22 points from Rachel Goodon.
  • On the season, its Mariyah Avila (So., G) who paces the team with her 10.1 points per game – the lone Bronco averaging double-digits this year.
  • Kiernan Paulk (Jr., G) leads the team with her 7.0 rebounds per game, while Alexis Folkers (So., G) dishes out a team-high 3.0 assists per game.
Up Next: Northwestern will return home for both games next week when they play host to Dakota Wesleyan and Doane.
