Red Raiders Open GPAC Slate Against CSM and Concordia This Week

NWC looks to start GPAC play with a win for the third-straight year under Rotert

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) schedule begins this week for the (RV) Northwestern College women's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 GPAC) as they travel to the College of Saint Mary (1-2, 0-0 GPAC) on Wednesday and will host No. 11-ranked Concordia (Neb.) (2-0, 0-0 GPAC) on Saturday.

THE SHOOTAROUND
  • Head coach Kristin Rotert is four wins away from moving into fifth all-time in program history in career wins.
  • NWC has not lost this season when leading at the half (3-0) or when wearing their red uniforms (2-0).
  • Northwestern opens up their GPAC schedule with a trip to Omaha Wednesday night for a clash with CSM.
  • It's the third-straight season the Red Raiders will open up league play on the road at CSM.
  • Molly Schany has now recorded four-straight 20-point games to start the season; including a new career-high of 32 points in the Mayville State game.  
  • Schany leads the GPAC in rebounding (10.8rpg) and sits second in scoring (24.3ppg).
  • Rebounding has been a strong point: In the NAIA, sitting eighth in rebounding margin (18.0).
  • Twice this season the Red Raiders have notched 50+ rebounds in a game, doing so just three times in 30 games last season.
  • NWC was picked to finish fifth in the GPAC Preseason Poll.
HOT START FOR SCHANY
  • Through four games this season, the Red Raider offense has gone through the post and Molly Schany, who is averaging a double-double this season.
  • She notched her 15th-career double-double against Saint Mary (Kan.), now having three on the young season.
  • The senior scored a new career-high 32 points in the effort against #22 Mayville State (Nov. 10).
  • She has scored 20+ points in all four games this season.
  • She's still shooting a solid 62.5% from the field.
ROTERT'S RAIDERS…
  • Are 26-4 when totaling fewer turnovers than the opponent (12-0 in 2021-22).
  • Are 25-10 when outrebounding the opponent.
  • Are 8-8 against teams ranked inside the NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll (at the time of the contest).
SERIES HISTORY – COLLEGE OF SAINT MARY
  • The Red Raiders are 20-4 all-time against the Flames.
  • NWC holds a 10-1 record with games played in Omaha.
  • NWC won the last meeting, in Orange City, 83-59 on Feb. 1, 2023.
  • Rotert is a perfect 4-0 against the Flames in her two seasons in Orange City.
SERIES HISTORY – CONCORDIA (NEB.)
  • Concordia leads the all-time series 42-23.
  • The Red Raiders are 12-6 in games played in Orange City (since 2005).
  • CUNE won the last meeting, in Orange City, 65-55 on January 21, 2023.
  • Rotert sits 2-2 against the Bulldogs.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES
  • The College of Saint Mary enters GPAC play with an overall record of 1-2, with their lone win coming in their first game of the season over to-be GPAC foe Waldorf, 67-63 (Oct. 27).
  • CSM comes into GPAC play after a pair of exhibition games against University of Nebraska Omaha (DI) and Chadron State (Neb.).
  • The Flames are led by Tia Murray (Jr., F) who sits fourth in the GPAC in scoring (19.3 ppg) and leads the team with her 6.7 rebounds per game.
  • Joining Murray, ShyAnne Mayhue (So., G) also is averaging double digits with her 11.0 points per game.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Concordia enters the week 2-0 and ranked No. 11 in the NAIA, after handing now No. 6-ranked Marian (Ind.) their first loss of the season (75-62).
  • The Bulldogs sit fourth in the conference, averaging 85.0 points per game early this season.
  • Taysha Rushton leads the team with her 17.5 points per game; while five different Bulldogs are averaging doubles digits per game.
  • On the boards, it's junior guard Abby Krieser leading the team with her 5.0 rebounds per contest.
Up Next: Northwestern will have just one game next week on Thanksgiving week, hosting the University of Jamestown for the final time with them as GPAC members on Tuesday, November 21.
