Red Raiders Drop Season Finale on the Road at Doane

Julie Dunlap nets seventh goal of the season in her final career game

CRETE, Neb. – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (5-10-1, 3-7-1 GPAC) fell on the road at Doane (4-8-4, 3-6-3 GPAC), 4-2, despite a pair of second half goals to conclude the 2023 season. Grace Timm and Julie Dunlap both found the back of the net for the Red Raiders in the final match of the season.
 
Doane struck first in the 10th minute thanks to a Savannah Franzoy goal, proving to be the lone score of the first half. The Tigers held the 1-0 lead after the first 45 minutes of play.
 
Early in the second half, in the 49th minute, Timm (Fr., Center City, Minn.) found the back of the net for the third time this season to draw even at 1-1.
 
The 62nd and 63rd minutes were full of action as each side both put goals on the board, making it 2-2. Doane struck first with a goal from Lexi Torok, before Dunlap (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) would quickly draw the Red Raiders even again for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
 
The Tigers would score a pair of unanswered goals late in the match – 75th and 84th minutes – to take the 4-2 win.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • Shots were relatively even on the night as Doane held a +1 advantage in both shots (19-18) and shots on-goal (12-11).
  • NWC held a 7-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
  • Julie Dunlap scored her seventh goal of the season, which led the team this season.
  • She also added to her team-leading assist mark with her fifth of the season.
  • She finishes her career with 29 goals and 15 assists, sitting T3rd and 4th in program history, respectively.
  • Grace Timm scored her third goal of the season, tying her with Aliza Edwards for second on the team.
  • Abby Bastian tallied eight saves in goal tonight for the Red Raiders, ending the regular season with a league-leading 121 saves.
Northwestern's season comes to an end Saturday night, as the Red Raiders finished the season with a 5-11-1 (3-8-1 GPAC) mark under first year head coach Kelli Herman.
