Late Goals Decide Non-Conference Match

Lammerts posts career-high five saves

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern men's soccer team (11-4-2, 7-1-2 GPAC) played in their final regular season home match on Wednesday afternoon, falling in a non-conference matchup with the Bethel (Minn.) Royals (5-8-4, 2-5-3 MIAC).

After a scoreless first half, the Raiders came out firing in the second as the closest non-scoring attempt saw Nikko Helderop (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) hit the crossbar, one of Northwestern's four shot attempts in the second half.

Bethel got on the board first on a penalty kick from Will Swanda, his first goal of the year. With the Raiders fighting to get back into it, Youssef Abdallah found the back of the net for an insurance goal to secure the 2-0 win for the Royals.

  • Rick Lammerts (Fr., Gemert, Netherlands) recorded a career-high five saves in goal.
