Raiders Earn No. 2 Seed After Win at Doane

Kaltenberger nets two goals, van den Beld two assists

CRETE, Neb. – Doane (3-7-7, 1-5-5 GPAC) scored two goals in the second half, but were unable to overcome Northwestern's (12-4-2, 8-1-2 GPAC) quest for the No. 2 seed in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), as the Red Raiders escaped with a 3-2 victory.

Northwestern scored twice in the later stages of the first half, both off the foot of Tim Kaltenberger (Sr., Cologne, Germany). The Raiders went up 1-0 just before the 30-minute mark before Kaltenberger added his second goal of the night and his 14th of the season three minutes before halftime, helping his team to a 2-0 halftime advantage.

It was more of the same in the early part of the second frame, as Gerrard Uamai (Sr., Dundalk, Republic of Ireland) gave Northwestern a 3-0 lead in the 58th minute to build up a demanding lead.

Despite Doane going on a run in the late minutes, scoring twice, it was too little, too late for the home team who only got one more shot attempt off in their battle for the No. 8 seed in the tournament.

MATCH NOTES
  • Tim Kaltenberger recorded his fourth multi-goal match of the season.
  • His 14 goals this year moved him into a tie for fourth in program history for single-season scoring.
  • Stan van den Beld (Jr., Voorhout, Netherlands) had two assists.
  • Gerrard Uamai scored his first goal since September 2.
Up Next: The Raiders will host the No. 7-seed Midland Warriors on Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the GPAC tournament. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at the NWC Soccer Complex.
