Dunlap's Goal Gives Red Raiders Win at Waldorf

Red Raiders prevail in the first-ever GPAC league game between the two programs

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (5-9-1, 3-6-1 GPAC) picked up their second road Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Waldorf University (0-10-3, 0-7-2 GPAC) in the first-ever GPAC meeting between the two teams.  
Northwestern put up seven shots to Waldorf's five in the first half, holding a 3-1 advantage to shots on-goal but neither team could find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play. Both Abby Noonan (Sr., Carlisle, Iowa) and Julie Dunlap (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) put up a pair of shots with one on-goal in the half.
 
With her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 61st minute, Dunlap netted what proved to be the game-winning goal. The Red Raider backline was able to hold off the Warriors the rest of the match, despite Waldorf putting up five more shots on the match than Northwestern.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • Waldorf held an 18-13 advantage in shots on the match, but the Warriors could not find the back of the net.
  • NWC had five corner kick opportunities in the match.
  • Julie Dunlap scored her fifth goal of the season in the 61st minute, proving to be the game-winning goal.
  • Dunlap also led the team in shots (4) and shots on-goal (3).
  • Abby Bastian collected three saves in goal for Northwestern.
  • NWC improves to 3-1-1 in the all-time series with Waldorf.
