Raiders Use Dominant Performance to Win GPAC Contest

Ruiz Garcia, Aarbo hit career highs in win

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Red Raider offense was on full display as Northwestern (10-3-2, 6-1-2 GPAC) shut out Waldorf (2-11-1, 1-7-1) in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play.

"The guys displayed a high level of execution in the first half today," commented head coach Dan Swier. "We scored in a variety of ways and took care of our defensive responsibilities to keep the clean sheet."

Tim Kaltenberger (Sr., Cologne, Germany) scored twice in the first 45 minutes as Northwestern built up a comfortable lead at halftime. The first six shots of the match were on the Raiders' side until they broke through for the first time with a goal from Stan van den Beld (Jr., Voorhout, Netherlands), his 10th of the year, at the 16' mark.

Later in the half, Kaltenberger took control on offense, scoring two times in less than five minutes. The second goal of the match, Kaltenberger's first, came on a free kick from 30 yards out to put the Raiders up 2-0. Moments later, van den Beld threaded a ball through a line of defenders to Kaltenberger, who lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net.

It did not take long for Northwestern to add to their lead in the second half, as Alejandro Ruiz Garcia (Jr., Valencia, Spain) fired with his left foot to score his third goal of the season and make the score 4-0.

Ruiz Garcia scored again in the 69th minute, grabbing a through ball and hitting it off the crossbar for the first multi-goal match of his Northwestern career.
