Jenness Wins 184 Bracket at Hastings Open

Parmelee top-six, Heeney and Francksen-Small with two wins each

HASTINGS, Neb. – The Northwestern wrestling team returned to the mat after over a month away on Saturday, compiling a successful day that saw Luke Jenness take the championship at the 184-pound weight class.

Jenness (Sr., Primghar, Iowa), ranked No. 19 in the NAIA for his class, went 4-0, winning two matches by decision and earning one pin on his way to the Raiders' first individual title of the season. His first win was a 9-2 decision over Missouri Valley's Karim Shakur, before winning by fall over Tate Kuchera of Nebraska-Kearney in the quarterfinals. After a semifinal victory by decision over Nebraska-Kearney's Jacob Awiszus, Jenness took the title by way of medical forfeit in the championship bout.

At 149, Noah Parmelee (Fr., Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) advanced to the consolation semis, going 3-2 on the day. His first win, a 10-1 major decision advanced him to the quarterfinals before winning two by decision in the consolation bracket.

Other Raiders to pick up multiple wins today were Sean Heeney (Jr., Sioux City, Iowa) and Jake Francksen-Small (So., Merrill, Iowa), with both athletes advancing to round four of their respective consolation brackets.

Francksen-Small led the team in match points today with 26.

"Overall it was a good first outing for the second semester," commented head coach Rik Dahl. "We saw some improvements and pulled the trigger more today. We need to clean up a few things before we move into the next week and three important duals. But as always, I was proud of the way our guys battled and represented themselves. I'm blessed to be able to coach them."

Up Next: The Raiders will start their busy week of matches on Wednesday when they travel to Sioux City to face the Briar Cliff Chargers in a dual.
